Visitors to Maro Creek - Policy

Aim:

The aim of this policy is to provide a safe environment for family and visitors to Maro Creek and protect its owners and staff from liability.

Situation:

  • Maro Creek (MC) farm is an INDUSTRIAL SITE and an operating farm

  • This environment is DANGEROUS for visitors

  • Most farms of this type do not allow any visitors for this reason

  • This policy focuses on visitors who are not involved with the running of the farm

Objectives:

  • Provide a SAFE environment for family and their visitors

  • Provide policy clarity for owners, employees and visitors

  • Provide a FARM FRIENDLY environment for everyone

  • Clarify responsibilities for MC family, their visitors about equipment usage

Policy:

  • All visitors to MC must have a HOST present (an employee or a MC owner)

  • The host is responsible for the safety of all visitors (inc children) while they at MC

  • Adults must supervise young children at all times

  • The host will ensure that a record is kept of all visitors and their time at MC. This is to be passed to the manager before departure

  • The host will provide any information the visitor needs including handling any problems

  • Other than the shearers quarters, kitchen and the old house, all other buildings and sheds are to be avoided

  • A public road passes through the homestead area and normal road care principles apply

  • Visitors must stay away from all farm activity, particularly activities involving machinery

  • Visitors (particularly children) must not play or climb on any vehicles, machinery, sheds or buildings

  • MC machinery, tools and equipment are not available for visitor usage

  • MC vehicles are not to be used for family or for visitor usage (see below)

  • Any personal equipment used during a visit is entirely at the users own risk (eg chainsaw)

  • Visitors should not disturb sheep or other animals. Remember that some dogs bite. During lambing (May), visitors should not pass through or near paddocks where ewes are lambing

  • Visitors should respect MCM employees, their homes and late night noise

  • Please leave all areas clean and tidy as you find them. Rubbish bins are provided

  • Feel free to take photographs, but nothing should be posted on Social Media

  • Visits should avoid peak agricultural activity (eg seeding, harvesting, shearing). Where possible, visits should be restricted to weekends.

  • Out of courtesy the farm manager should always be made aware of any visits before arrival

Maro Creek is private property. As a rule, no one other than owners, contractors or employees are permitted to travel off the public roads on MC. This is particularly important because of the liability that MC owners have for the well-being and safety of everyone.

Visitors who are invited to take their own cars or other vehicles off the public roads (eg to the gravesite or Woody Gully) do so entirely at their own risk, and must sign a waver form (see draft attached) before proceeding. The host has responsibility for providing and collecting these forms before any travel. The forms should subsequently be left with the manager.

Maro Creek farm equipment and vehicles are NOT TO BE USED by anyone other than Maro Creek staff or the MC Board members who are appropriately qualified and licensed.

The MCM Toyota Hi Lux Ute may be used by members of the Bidgood family for safely getting around the farm. Ordinary road rules apply.

Children MUST NOT climb on Maro Creek machinery.

Identified Implementation:

Immediate

Waver Form for private vehicle use off public roads

….. get legal doc written to cover

Cover personal vehicles

Cover kids in vehicles

Cover motor bikes etc

… driver of any vehicle has total responsibility and no liability is accepted by MCM or its owners for any personal damage or accidents

Suggested communication – maybe a larger sign in the shearer’s kitchen and the quarters
